Project Name: GE India Industrial Pvt Ltd
System Provided: Lighting Management System
Client Name: General Electric
Location: Chakan, Pune
Project Introduction
General Electric India Industrial is one of the large-scale manufacturers of products for electric power control and distribution in India. The facility being spread over 60 acres has well built infrastructure. This facility, to begin with, focuses on energy products and technologies driven by the industry needs for power generation, transmission and distribution as well as measure-ment and control.
The main purpose of installing the Lighting management system was to maximize the efficiency of lighting systems. This lighting control system switch lights off when no one’s there, and dim or switch them off when there’s enough natural light. Due to this system the people in the facility now have the convenience of walking seamlessly from one environment to other without turning on the lights first and the safety that lights won’t get switched off when the area is occupied.
Client requirement
The client required a Light Management system maximise its efficiency, without compromising the comfort and performance of the space, or the ecosystem of a building. Auto/Manual control of intensity and switching of these lights was also required.
Visit Details
This requirement was understood by our engineers at TechBean and visited site for thorough designing of the system. The designing of this system was done after considering all the requirements. Factors such as weather conditions for outdoor lighting were also considered while designing.
Product Details
- Ex-Or’s MLS Digital Managed Lighting System was installed throughout the building to control thousands of light fixtures situated in office areas, workstations, corridors, meeting rooms, washrooms and lobby areas.
- This system could also be integrated with Honeywell’s Building management system without any difficulty, if linking with BMS was required in the future.
- The detectors installed makes use of PIR sensors which can differentiate between the movements made by machinery and those made by people (unlike microwave sensor) to avoid unnecessary switching in production areas.
- In order to maximize savings, photocells are installed to regulate and/or switch off the lights when there is enough ambient daylight.
Following are the salient features of the whole system:
- Full High Definition Video Output of the cameras for clear viewing 20/40 ft IR distance for dome/bullet for viewing in low light.
- Power over Ethernet (PoE) cameras are used to eliminate the need of 2 separate wired connection for data and power.
- The network cameras (IP cameras) can be accessed individually from anywhere.
- Cameras have an inbuilt SD card storage facility so a standalone camera recording without the need of NVR is also possible.
- The NVR employs a linux based OS, so it is very stable and is immune to virus attack and has very good support for 3rd party integration.
- Easy to use and user-friendly operating software and can support unlimited users.
- NVR has an internal power supply for seamless operation in case of power supply failure.

Handover process
In Handover process of Light Management System, the whole system was demonstrated for automatic lighting. All agreed features on light management system were tested in the presence of site in charge. Subsequently the engineering and services team were trained for all features of Light management system. This training session was basically a practical hands-on session of Light Management System with maximum interaction from client side.
Handover document was submitted to the customer, it includes the detailed logic description of all systems, system architecture and layout, operation and maintenance manual, supplier and service center details and Escalation list of service team.
